How escrow works
Who holds your money
Never MPBxChange. Each deal settles under the arrangement the parties designate — your own bank, a letter of credit, or a designated escrow/trust provider. Integrated escrow with licensed partners (commercial banks registered under the Thai Escrow Act B.E. 2551 (2008)) is on the roadmap. Section §7 of the Escrow Act is explicit that only licensed agents may hold buyer funds for safekeeping — which is why MPBxChange itself never will.
What MPBxChange does
We are a payment-instruction transmitter. We:
- Generate an idempotent payment reference for each contract
- Verify the deposit via Stripe webhook or bank-statement reconciliation
- Update the contract state to "escrow funded"
- Record when funds become releasable on milestone confirmation
- Reconcile the settlement rail against our ledger
We never take title to the funds. Where the parties designate an escrow or trust provider, its segregated account holds funds under your name until release.
When release happens
A milestone release fires only when both signals are present:
- The supplier marks the milestone complete (with attached evidence — photos, certificates, lab results, etc.)
- The buyer confirms acceptance (or the inspection window expires without dispute)
If the buyer disputes within the window, escrow is frozen until the dispute resolves. See How disputes work.
Refund
If the deal is cancelled before any milestone, the buyer is refunded in full minus the platform's drafting fee (฿1,500 on Starter; included on Trader+). The refund travels through the same rail used to fund — Stripe-funded contracts refund through Stripe; bank-wire-funded contracts refund through a return wire (timing depends on the bank). See Refund timeline.
What you see in your /wallet
The /wallet page is a statement of escrow holdings — not a spendable wallet balance. You cannot withdraw funds from escrow on demand; release is governed by the contract's milestone schedule. Released funds settle to your linked bank or Stripe Connect account, not to a balance held by MPBxChange.
