PCB materials made in Thailand: Ventec opens in Ayutthaya

Key points

  • Ventec International Group, a PCB materials supplier, officially opened its plant in Ayutthaya on 26 October 2026, its first production site in Southeast Asia, to make prepreg, bond-ply and laminates. Its manufacturing had until then been in China and Taiwan.[1]
  • The site is 8.4 acres in the Hi-Tech Industrial Estate, and the company put the investment at US$17 million when it chose Thailand in December 2024.[5]
  • At full capacity the plant is planned to make about 3 million square metres of prepreg a month and 80,000 square metres of bond-ply, with production ramping up gradually through 2028.[3][1]
  • Ventec has not published output or utilisation for the plant, and commercial supply depends on process commissioning, qualification of material grades and customer approvals.[2] Small-volume shipments had begun by the opening day, with formal mass production expected at the end of 2026.[13]
  • The MPBxChange register lists nine materials plants in Thailand: three operating (Ventec, ITEQ and MGC Electrotechno), three approved by the BOI on 8 July 2026 (Taiwan Union Technology, Doosan Electro-Materials and Fulltech Fiber Glass), two under construction (Shengyi Technology in Chachoengsao and Nanya New Material in Prachin Buri, where ground was broken on 22 October 2026) and one announced (Panasonic Industry's MEGTRON building in Ayutthaya).[1][9][11][6][18][21][10]

Context

A printed circuit board is built from copper-clad laminate cores bonded together with prepreg, glass cloth impregnated with partly cured resin. The board plants in Thailand are covered by the MPBxChange plant register and by who owns them; the 2026 supply of glass cloth, copper foil and laminate is covered in the material shortage article. This article covers the layer above the board plants: the materials made inside Thailand.

Ventec International Group Co., Ltd. trades in Taiwan under the code 6672.[4] Before the Thai plant, its manufacturing was in China and Taiwan.[1]

On 17 December 2024 Ventec confirmed Thailand as the location of a new PCB material plant, to be built on 8.4 acres in the Hi-Tech Industrial Estate, north of Bangkok in Ayutthaya province. It described the US$17 million investment as an expansion of its manufacturing beyond China and Taiwan, and set a capacity of 150,000 sheets a month for phase one.[5]

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on the morning of 30 July 2025, at what the company called the Hi-Tech Industrial Park in Ayutthaya. The factory covers about 35,000 square metres. The plan at that date was trial production in the first quarter of 2026 and full-scale production in the second quarter of 2026, with the first factory in use in early 2026 for copper foil substrates and adhesive sheets.[4]

In March 2026 the company said production at the site would ramp up gradually between 2026 and 2028.[3] The official opening followed on 26 October 2026. The plant will make prepreg, bond-ply and laminates for high-reliability boards in sectors such as aerospace, defence, industry and medical technology, with production ramping up gradually through 2028.[1] On the opening day, Anue (cnyes.com) reported that the plant had begun small-volume shipments of laminate and bonding sheet, with formal mass production expected at the end of 2026. Treating capacity is to follow from 2027, and is expected to raise the plant's total design capacity by a further 15%.[13]

Stated capacity and the ramp to 2028

The capacity figures are plans. The prepreg and bond-ply figures describe the plant at full capacity, which the company places at the end of a ramp running to 2028.[3][1] They describe planned manufacturing capability, not the volume produced when the factory opened in October, and Ventec has not provided confirmed output or utilisation figures for the plant.[2]

The schedule has been restated as the project advanced. The groundbreaking plan of 2025 named full-scale production for the second quarter of 2026.[4] The statements of March and October 2026 describe a gradual ramp to 2028 instead of a single start date.[3][1] The report of the opening day places formal mass production at the end of 2026.[13]

PCB-materials plants in Thailand confirmed by a primary source or two independent sources, including materials for semiconductor package substrates. Stage is the latest reported step. Planned capacity is set out in the text. Not stated: the sources do not give it. Checked on 31 October 2026.

The register covers plants that make inputs for bare boards (copper-clad laminate and prepreg, copper foil, glass yarn and glass cloth, and, where sourced, dry film, solder mask and process chemicals) and plants that make materials for semiconductor package substrates. Each row gives the company, its parent and listing, the product, the province and estate, the latest reported stage with its date, and the sources. The four stages are announced, approved, under construction and operating. Where the sources do not give a province, an estate or a listing, the register says so.

Operating

Ventec's plant is listed as operating from its opening on 26 October 2026; its earlier stages were the site announcement of December 2024 and the start of construction in July 2025.[5][4][1]

ITEQ's Thai plant had copper-clad laminate capacity of about 300,000 sheets a month in October 2026, according to the Liberty Times. The plant was expanding to 600,000 sheets a month by the end of 2026, and a 600,000-sheet expansion plan for a second plant had been launched, for a planned 1.2 million sheets a month by the end of 2028. The report does not name the province.[9]

MGC Electrotechno (Thailand), a subsidiary of MGC Electrotechno in the Mitsubishi Gas Chemical group, makes BT materials for semiconductor packages. The group established it in Thailand in 2012, and in November 2025 Mitsubishi Gas Chemical announced the completion of an additional plant that doubles its production capacity. The report does not name the province.[11]

Under construction

Shengyi Technology (Thailand), a subsidiary of Guangdong Shengyi Technology (Shanghai, 600183), is building a copper-clad laminate and prepreg plant at the TFD Industrial Estate Phase II in Chachoengsao. The board of the parent approved the project on 28 July 2023, with an investment of RMB 1.4 billion (about US$200 million) to be built in phases.[14] The groundbreaking took place on 18 December 2024,[15] and the Thai company received its BOI investment promotion certificate in June 2025.[16] The structure was topped out on 16 January 2026, when the company described the plan as 12 million square metres of high-performance copper-clad laminate and 23.4 million metres of prepreg (bonding sheet) a year.[17] In its interim report for 2026, filed on 15 August 2026, the parent attributes part of the rise in construction in progress to net spending on the Thai plant's phase-one project.[18]

Nanya New Material Technology (Shanghai STAR Market, 688519) held the groundbreaking ceremony for its Thai production base in Prachin Buri province on 22 October 2026, which the company describes as a key step for its high-end copper-clad laminate business.[21] Its board approved a copper-clad laminate and prepreg base in Thailand, with an investment of not more than RMB 700 million, on 25 June 2023,[19] and the Thai company had received its BOI investment promotion certificate by March 2025.[20] The sources give no capacity or start date.

Approved

The BOI release of 8 July 2026 reports three materials projects:[6]

  • Taiwan Union Technology (Thailand) Co., Ltd., US$189.2 million (6.3 billion baht) in Chonburi, for copper-clad laminate and prepreg designed for AI servers and data centres.
  • Doosan Electro-Materials (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a unit of Doosan Corp., US$180.2 million (6 billion baht) in Samut Prakan, for copper-clad laminate and prepreg.
  • Fulltech Fiber Glass (Thailand) Co., Ltd., US$99.4 million (3.3 billion baht) in Chachoengsao, for specialised glass fibre fabric.

The release gives no construction or start dates. For Doosan, the Korea Times reported in May 2026 a plan to invest 180 billion won in a CCL plant of 72,700 square metres at the Araya Industrial Park, with two production lines at first, expandable to eight, and operations from the second half of 2028.[7] For Fulltech, the parent company's board approved phase one capital spending of about NT$3.1 billion for the Thai glass-fabric plant on 25 February 2026, with mass production planned for the third quarter of 2027.[8]

Announced

On 12 September 2025 Panasonic Industry announced an investment of about ¥17 billion in a new building at its Ayutthaya Plant, on the grounds of Panasonic Manufacturing Ayutthaya in the Rojana Industrial Park, for MEGTRON multi-layer circuit board materials. Operations are scheduled for November 2027 and mass production by the end of fiscal 2028.[10] The release does not say what the existing Ayutthaya plant makes today, so the row covers the new building.

Qualification of a Thai-made material

IPC-4101 sets the requirements for base materials, laminate or prepreg, used primarily for rigid or multilayer printed boards. Each of its specification sheets sets requirements for both laminate and prepreg for one product grade.[12]

A material made in a new plant reaches a board order through several further steps. The reports of the Ventec opening name three: the commissioning of individual production processes, the qualification of material grades, and the completion of customer approvals. Commercial supply depends on all three.[2]

These steps apply grade by grade and customer by customer. An opening marks the plant as built; it does not show which grades have completed qualification or which customers have approved them, and the reports of the opening name neither.[1][2]

Volume also depends on the ramp. The planned figures describe the plant at full capacity, which the company places at the end of a ramp to 2028, not its output during the ramp; the reports do not state how output during the ramp is shared among grades or customers.[1][2][3]

The register's rows are held as data, with their sources, and were checked on 31 October 2026.

A plant enters the register when a primary source, or two independent sources, confirm a site in Thailand. Its stage is the latest step reported by those sources; a BOI approval is recorded as approved. Provinces and estates are given as the sources state them. Planned capacity, ramp-up schedules, start dates and investment figures are reported as the companies' plans and are not counted as current supply. Output, utilisation and customer-qualified availability at the plants were not independently verified. No company was contacted. Interpretation is MPBxChange analysis.
